Roberts Projects is seeking an ambitious, highly connected, and entrepreneurial Sales Director to cultivate relationships with collectors, institutions, advisors, and cultural patrons. This role is ideal for an experienced sales professional with a deep understanding of the contemporary art market and a passion for championing innovative artistic practices.

The Sales Director will work closely with gallery leadership, artists, and the broader team to expand the gallery’s collector base and drive primary-market sales.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute strategic sales initiatives to meet and exceed annual revenue goals.

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with established collectors, emerging buyers, art advisors, curators, museum professionals, and corporate clients.

  • Proactively identify and engage new collectors both domestically and internationally.

  • Lead sales efforts for gallery exhibitions, art fairs, and special projects.

  • Collaborate with artists and gallery leadership to position works strategically within the market.

  • Maintain detailed records of collector interactions, sales pipelines, and acquisition histories.

  • Prepare sales proposals, presentations, acquisition recommendations, and collection-building strategies.

  • Coordinate collector visits, private viewings, and VIP events.

  • Represent the gallery at art fairs, exhibition openings, industry events, and collector gatherings.

  • Monitor market trends and provide insights on collector behavior, pricing, and competitive positioning.

  • Work collaboratively with communications, exhibitions, and operations teams to ensure a seamless client experience.

Requirements
  • Minimum five years of successful sales experience within a contemporary art gallery, auction house, advisory, or related cultural institution.

  • Demonstrated track record of achieving significant sales targets.

  • Strong existing network of collectors, advisors, curators, and art world professionals.

  • Deep knowledge of contemporary art and current market dynamics.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, presentation, and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to communicate complex artistic concepts with clarity and enthusiasm.

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through.

  • Willingness to travel for art fairs, exhibitions, and client meetings.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Art History, Arts Administration, Business, or related field preferred.

  • The position is full time, Tuesday–Saturday, 11am–6pm and requires some flexibility.
