World Wildlife - Heritage Museum

                                             The World Wildlife Heritage Museum is seeking a Museum Exhibition Coordinator/Technician. Under Museum Director supervision, the Museum performs a wide variety of skilled duties in the preparation, installation, and care of museum exhibits, related duties as required in a startup museum environment. This position performs maintenance work and installation of museum galleries. The Museum Coordinator/Technician must be responsible and able to follow established procedures in connection with the preparation and installation of museum exhibits and the care of artifacts and objects. Nature of the work requires extensive artifact handling skills, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift and move objects with extreme care. The position requires project coordination skills with a high level of independence and the ability to solve installation and design challenges.

WWHM is a privately funded non-profit corporation with a world class 100,000 square foot museum facility located in Concord California. The collection is focused on Natural history of the Seven Continents, Western Heritage, and a variety of unique collections.

Museum is built for education geared toward K-12. Museum will be open to the public in the future, however, for starters we will only be open to schools. The position will lead guided tours, some evenings and weekends may be required.

This is a unique opportunity to be on the ground floor of a museum development team.

Responsibilities

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Using extreme care and established artifact handling guidelines, prepares, hangs, mounts, and installs objects, artifacts and themed dioramas for exhibits.

  • Coordinates and executes exhibition projects.

  • Constructs and prepares props and backgrounds for exhibits, vitrines, and showcases. Constructs and prepares exhibition platforms and pedestals. Prepares and installs general exhibition effects.

  • Use hand power tools and rigging equipment.

  • Movement and preparations of exhibition furniture and casework for exhibition galleries. Assembles and mounts wall panels, labels, photographs, and other materials.

  • Works with curators and registrars on installation and deinstallation projects.

  • Works with curators and registrars to organize, clean, and maintain art storage.

  • Up to date on museum function and industry best practices.

Requirements

Requirements

Education: A high school diploma or GED. AA or BA preferred

Work Experience: 2 years of progressively responsible experience in the coordination, design, preparation, construction, and installation of exhibit displays OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in handling valuable artifacts with extreme care is essential. Ability to work in a fast-paced and multifaceted environment a must.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of a computerized database is preferred.

  • Experience in exhibition project planning and execution preferred

  • Knowledge of the standard tools, practices, and methods used in painting, rough and finish carpentry, and cabinet work.

  • Knowledge of the use of different materials, such as various kinds of lumber, fabrics, plastics, mechanical fasteners, and adhesives.

  • Basic mount making and fabricating skills.

  • Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools, especially in the application of various materials.

  • Ability to work from design and construction drawings.

  • Ability to follow oral instructions as to construction and installation of museum exhibits.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands: Requires the ability to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to comfortably lift 50 pounds.
