Fabrication and Installation Coordinator

Ball Nogues Studio

We’re looking for an experienced Fabrication and Installation Coordinator to join our small, collaborative studio in Los Angeles. This is a full-time, in-person role—not an entry-level position. We’re seeking someone with significant experience—ideally 8+ years in design-build or art fabrication—who can bridge the worlds of design, hands-on making, and on-site installation.

You’ll work closely with project managers and Benjamin Ball to help realize complex, large-scale public artworks. This role involves a mix of shop work, install leadership, and coordination—ideal for someone who thrives in both the physical and organizational sides of making.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Translate design intent into clear shop drawings and install documents

  • Work in Rhino to prepare layouts for waterjet/CNC fabrication (light Grasshopper use)

  • Help lead or support on-site installations—especially out of town • Coordinate logistics: freight, rigging plans, install sequencing

  • Collaborate with fabricators and vendors

  • Step into hands-on fabrication when needed—especially during prototyping and preinstall prep

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • At least 8 years’ experience in design-build or public art fabrication

  • Solid, working knowledge of Rhino for fabrication workflows • Familiarity with a wide range of materials and techniques (metal, chain, rigging systems, etc.)

  • Experience leading or supporting installations

  • Comfortable traveling and working at project sites around the US and the world

  • Calm under pressure, comfortable with ambiguity, proactive and self-directed

  • Detail-obsessed but flexible in process

  • Based on the east-side of Los Angeles or willing to relocate quickly; this is not a remote role

This is a chance to contribute meaningfully to public artworks, speculative design, and design-build architecture. You’ll be part of a team that values material intelligence, collaboration, and thoughtful execution. We work hard, think carefully, and try not to take ourselves too seriously.
